WW2 - Military & Home Front

U.S 5th ARMY PAIR OF PATCHES.
Item No. 00204

A pair of GENUINE ex-military, unissued cloth patches to the U.S. Fifth Army.

Although these badges were manufactured in the 1960's, they are of identical design and pattern to those issued in WW2, so are probably very useful for Living History purposes, or for museums, or quite simply your collection.

The US Fifth Army's history can be traced back to January 1943, when it was activated for use in the Mediterranean Theatre of War. Under the command of Lt. Gen. Mark Clark, the Fifth Army became the first US ground troops to fight on the European mainland, when they at fought at Salerno on 9th September 1943.

The design of the badge is quite interesting, as it features a blue mosque - a reflection of the fact the Army was formed at Qujda, in Morocco.

These are genuine ex-military badges, and the box end label indicates that they were manufactured in "3/6/68" (ie-March 6th 1968), by the "Oswald Schicker Mfg. Co". As proof (and for reference purposes) I will include a small black & white photocopy of the original box end label when I send you the patches.
